Herbivore Cheat Day

Although there is no peril yet at hand,

my tender heart feels strained enough to break.

Despite how you sustain this bloody gland,

you also cause its awful chronic ache.

Like how a deer consumes the fruits and green,

intact as one whole piece inside your jaw,

my softened heart is ground and mashed between

the flat and blunted teeth amidst your maw.

I doubt you ever meant to cause me pain.

Too hard to tell my flesh and fruit apart?

Although there's one thing still I can't explain:

the tender licks you give another heart.

I could not have predicted this conceit:

that deer could even like the taste of meat.
